Commodity prices sweeping new crimewave

Friday, July 16, 2010

London(online-unsecured-loan.co.uk) July 08, 2009:With the recent theft incident involving bronze plaques from the naval war memorial in Plymouth, the commodity crimewave in Britain is sweeping to unprecedented heights.

The four bronze plaques, each carrying the names of fallen sailors, was sold for a scrap value of £200 each, the plaques were however recovered later. It is believed that the soaring prices for scrap metal, oil and basic foodstuffs have encouraged crooks to turn up to these 'soft targets'. The presence of organised crime in the overseas market along with a possible involvement of a doctored distribution network has resulted in these items to be shipped overseas.

In the recent times, catalytic converter and heating oil are the most targeted commodities for the crooks. This is because copper wire or piping usually fetch approximately £2,500 a ton as scrap, part of catalytic converters close to £30 a gram and lead £250 to £300 a ton. The cost of domestic oil has risen from about 33p/litre at the start of the year to more than 60p/litre today, which means that a full tank is worth approximately £1,200.

The Briton Home owners as well as businesses are equally at risk and must be ready to implement some action real soon.
